Bluetooth your BMW
High-tech bells and whistles. As easy to use as the low-tech ones
BMW hands-free systems are perhaps the most capable in-vehicle cellular systems available today. Whether you choose to use Bluetooth® or add an available snap-in cradle, each system is deeply integrated into your vehicle to provide the fullest range of functions and stability possible. Only with the use of
BMW compatible handsets with compatible software levels will you be guaranteed trouble-free performance and access to all supported functions.
Bluetooth Benefits
Convenience:
After your Bluetooth
® mobile phone* has been paired with
your
BMW, you’ll have an
automatic connection that allows you to search
your address book, dial numbers and answer your mobile phone by using
the buttons on the steering wheel. With this connection, your vehicle’s
microphone will pick up your voice, allowing you to talk hands free.
The radio speakers in your vehicle act as your earphones and you can
adjust the volume using the radio controls.
Safety:
Many states forbid the use of handheld mobile phones while driving.
Bluetooth technology gives you hands-free freedom, so you won't need to
pull off the road to stay connected, or fumble to dial in the dark.
Simply set and connect your mobile phone to Bluetooth before placing it
in a suitably secure area such as in your phone's snap-in cradle, if
available. Bluetooth technology will automatically pair with BMW's
system, so you can keep both hands on the wheel and eyes on the road
while you dial, talk and answer calls on your mobile phone.
Flexibility:
Once your Bluetooth mobile phone has been paired with your
BMW, your
Bluetooth hands-free system will connect automatically each time you
enter and start your vehicle. You can pair a maximum of four approved
Bluetooth mobile phones with your BMW, and allow up to three other
people to enjoy the convenience of en-route calling. (Please remember:
only one mobile phone at a time can be used through Bluetooth.) If you
have more than one
Bluetooth-enabled BMW, both vehicles can be paired
to the same Bluetooth mobile phone.
Security:
Every Bluetooth-enabled BMW requires that a
“Passkey” be entered during
the pairing process. The passkey prevents unauthorized users from
accessing the system. Once paired, the Bluetooth link employs a
security layer to further protect against unauthorized use. Only when
the mobile phone and the vehicle identify each other’s signal, can a
hands-free connection be created. To reduce the risk of interference or
interception, Bluetooth wireless technology changes the signal’s
frequency 1,600 times per second. The signal, which has a range of 30
feet, is also encrypted, making it unintelligible to others. For
further details, visit your local authorized
BMW center.
Portability:
If you’re using your mobile phone while getting into your
BMW and
turning on the ignition, your phone may automatically switch to
hands-free mode. If you’ve turned off the ignition and you’re getting
out of your car, your phone will switch out of hands-free mode. Whether
you’re leaving your vehicle, or just getting in, you’ll stay connected,
so just keep talking. As an option, you can also hit the phone’s
“transfer audio” button, to switch into or out of hands-free mode.
Choice:
BMW gives you the freedom to choose carriers, with selections that
include; Cingular/AT&T wireless, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon
Wireless. You can also choose from a growing list of
Bluetooth-supported mobile phone models that have been carefully tested
and approved by BMW for compatibility.
