Based on the perennially popular BMW 3 Series sedan, the M3 is a four-door sedan, tweaked for more performance and power than the longstanding fan favorite. Similarly, the BMW M4 is based on the eye-catching 4 Series models, which means it comes in the same, familiar options of either a two-door coupe or two-door convertible, but with the more-powerful engine upgrade under the hood.
Both cars come with a standard 473 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque, thanks to their base engine, a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder. Drivers who crave a little more power can opt for the higher-level Competition models, which get a spiced-up version of the same powertrain and produce 503 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque.
